For Old Souls
Andrea Gavin and Stefan Becker
"We have always both felt like we should have met in the 1930s or 40s old Hollywood glamour era," says Andrea Gavin about her relationship with Stefan Becker. "We love the music, fashion and traditions. We pictured our wedding in black and white." After deciding on Glen Magna Farms for its grounds, which Andrea and Stefan feel "echoed the past with a beautiful garden" to share their religious-spiritual fusion vows, they moved forward with their vintage-inspired affair.
It "came together intuitively," shares Andrea, whose house is filled with antiques and memorabilia that the couple incorporated into a Memory Table complete with artifacts from the past and photos of their ancestor’s weddings. "Everyone loved seeing the photos of themselves, and at the end of the night, we offered the photos as our parting gifts." For the guest book, vintage postcards and an old Smith Corona typewriter did the trick, creating typed notes and living wishes from all of their guests.
"The entire wedding party was dressed in formal attire and the men wore fedoras," reminisces Andrea, pointing out another thoughtful touch: "the bridesmaids carried bouquets of calla lilies; the flower most indicative of the art deco era we love so much." For an added thrill, a shiny black 1942 Packard was parked on the grounds making for a perfect photo op for all of their guests.
To finish the theme Andrea and Stefan hired a swing band and "their big band sound echoed throughout the grounds; everybody came out swinging," remembers Andrea, who, along with Stefan, practiced a few lindy-hop and East-coast moves just for the occasion. "At the end of the night we were driven off in a restored 1939 Imperial Cadillac limousine with Glenn Miller’s Orchestra playing on the radio. It was perfect," she smiles.
