the person I will always want

Orange, Connecticut

October, 2006

A friendship that began at the gym took Jane Moritz and Tim Kibodeaux from workout partners to life partners. Love grew between the two and "one day I woke up and it hit me that he is the one I’m going to spend my life with," said Jane.

"I knew Jane was the one when I saw her after returning from a trip and I thought, 'This is the person I will always want to return home to,'" recalled Tim.

While the two had been dating for a while and talked about marriage, the December 21, 2005, proposal came as a surprise to Jane. Having recently purchased their home, they had planned to wait a few months to become engaged. "Since we’d agreed to wait until spring, I initially thought he was joking!" Jane said. It was no joke, as Tim had the ring and had already asked Jane’s father for his blessing.

With only 10 months to the big day, the couple hired event planner Lisa Cox, whom Jane said knew exactly what she wanted and was able to create a traditional, yet custom wedding.

Unable to select just one of her six closest friends to be her maid of honor, Jane had six maids of honor standing by her side as she and Tim exchanged vows at Orange Congregational Church. Personal touches and details—from Jane’s self-designed wedding program and menu to Tim’s ring, custom-designed by his best man, Paul Perrotti—were woven into the day. Her father’s bow tie and cummerbund were made of his family’s tartan. Imported from Scotland, they arrived just days before the wedding. Handkerchiefs carried by Jane’s mother and late grandmothers on their respective wedding days were used to create the couple’s ring pillow.

Following the ceremony, the 170 guests were taken by bus to her parent’s estate: Coolidge Hill. As a child, years before her family lived in the home, Jane and her mother had seen the estate decorated with tents and lights for a wedding. Once they lived in the home, Jane said, "My mom and I always knew that we’d have the reception at home, just like we’d seen before." Recreating her childhood memory, two large tents were erected and votives and lantern-style candle holders were placed in trees throughout the property.

After photographs, Jane and Tim joined their family and friends, arriving in style in the couple’s Bentley. In the first tent, guests enjoyed cocktails, including a Cosmopolitan fountain, and hors d’oeuvres ranging from a sushi bar to duck confit. Dinner, cake and dancing took place in the second tent. Tim’s only request for the day was a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting. And neither he nor Jane was disappointed with their Tahitian, vanilla bean cake with Swiss meringue buttercream.

The next day the newlyweds took a well-deserved rest, traveling to Las Vegas and Los Angeles for their honeymoon. "Just spending time alone without time constraints was the best part," Tim said. Still each other’s workout partners and best friends, the two are happy to have found each other. As Tim added, "Becoming Jane’s husband felt so natural and right. We were made for one another; I wish I had found her sooner."
