Honeymoon Getaways

From Montego Bay to Negril, Jamaica will have you moving with the rhythm

Jamaica Honeymoons

Jamaican culture has had a global influence. From being recognized as the birthplace of reggae, producing singers like Bob Marley, to writer Ian Fleming, who lived in Jamaica and used the island as the setting of several James Bond novels, to Jamaican jerk spice and Red Stripe beer—an American favorite.

Two of the main tourist areas on the island are Montego Bay, known for its duty-free shopping, breathtaking Doctor’s Cave Beach and view of the St. Ann Mountains, and Negril, known for its world-renowned Seven Mile Beach and cliff-perched resorts.

Located on the island’s north coast, in Montego Bay, is the couples-only Sandals Royal Plantation. Known as “the quiet side of Sandals,” it is situated between two beaches creating an all-oceanfront resort where its 74 suites feature engrossing panoramic views. A member of Leading Small Hotels of the World, Royal Plantation prides itself on providing unmatched attention to detail and personalized service. The resort is tucked into a coral bluff and is appointed with a bluff-top freshwater pool, comprehensive scuba diving program, complimentary use of the nearby 18-hole golf course, dining at award-winning Le Papillion, and privileges at neighboring Sandals Grande Ochos Rios. Guests can also book services at the spa, where services are rendered anytime, anywhere.

A short distance away is the boutique resort and former private residence of Jacqueline Kennedy: Round Hill Hotel and Villas. Built as a main house with 36 oceanfront rooms and 27 privately-owned villas, Round Hill caters to sophisticated guests with understated glamour, five-star service and Jamaican hospitality. Round Hill is located on a private cove complete with a double infinity edge pool, private beach, PADI-certified scuba diving, and option to charter the resort’s yacht. Its world-class spa is located in a transformed 18th-century house overlooking the water and services include “All About Me,” a teen-centric menu, as well as more signature treatments like the famous Pineapple Body Buff.

About an hour and a half away, on the westernmost edge of the island, is the Moon Dance Resorts. One of Negril’s newest luxury properties, it includes Villas—beachfront rental homes—and Cliffs—an all-inclusive boutique hotel. Completed in 2008, it features a spectacular pool, modern spa and tropical gardens. The main hotel includes various level suites and the villas range from one to five bedrooms, with the latter being 5,000 square feet with a private jacuzzi and verandas off each bedroom. Moon Dance’s spa, titled Kamala, derives its name from Hindu for lotus, representing the purity of the body, speech and mind, and marries natural products with modern technologies. Facilities also include a 5,000-square-foot pool with a cascading waterfall and is inclusive of tennis, golf, deep sea fishing and horseback riding.

Nearby, is the environmentally-friendly, boutique-style Rockhouse Hotel and Spa, which spans Pristine Cove and is positioned on 80 acres of tropical gardens. The resort boasts a 60-foot, cliff-top horizon pool, award-winning restaurant set on a balcony suspended over the water, and thatched-roof villas with private sunbathing decks perched on the cliff’s edge. Throughout the property there are ladders and stairs carved into the rocks that lead down for easy water access. Unveiling their new holistic spa, treatments can be given “on-the-rocks” or inside the garden spa. A must for any guest is to try the Pushcart Restaurant and Rum Bar, which offers a glimpse of authentic street food, while sampling some of the Caribbean’s finest rums.

Whether you stay in the calmer Montego Bay area or more lively Negril, when you visit Jamaica, you will come to understand the nation’s motto, “Out of many, one people,” as you celebrate love and the start of your life together.
