A Lover’s Paradise on the White Sandy Beaches of Anguilla

Anguilla Honeymoons

One of the most northern of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles, Anguilla is the vacation spot of choice for celebrity couples and discerning jetsetters alike. The island boasts what are believed to be some of the world's most beautiful beaches, and Cap Juluca has the cachet of encompassing what is labeled one of the World's Sexiest Beaches 2008 by “The Travel Channel,” making it an obvious choice for couples—like Courtney Cox and David Arquette, Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon, and Jerry Seinfeld and Jessica Sklar—to escape to.

To arrive at this Moorish-style resort, guests must fly into St. Maarten where they have the option of getting escorted via private boat for a scenic transfer or taking a short flight into the capital. When you arrive at Cap Juluca, you will find yourself to be on the southwest coast of the island, basking in panoramic views of the mountains of St. Maarten just seven miles away.

The resort has 179 acres of land and is positioned in a private enclave, contributing to its reputation for luxury, privacy and exclusivity. There are a total of eighteen beachfront villas—six of which have a private pool—each with an ocean view, direct access to the beach and an en-suite terrace. For the "perfect honeymoon," Director of Sales and Marketing, Charles Black III, recommends that a couple stay in a "junior suite or one bedroom private pool suite. They must do the couples massage on the privacy of their own terrace and a beach dinner for two followed by champagne and strawberries in the privacy of their couples tub."

Beach dinners are permitted to no more than six couples simultaneously on the two-mile stretch, lending the experience as the epitome of romance. But if you want to be a bit more social, you can opt for dining in one of the resort's three restaurants: Blue (serving beachside bistro), Spice (serving Pan-Asian cuisine) and Pimms' (serving Caribbean and European fusion that they coined Eurobbean). Afterward, the Maundays Club is a great place to enjoy live entertainment in an upscale lounge atmosphere.

"Although some would consider dining an attraction," comments Black, some of the "musts" while you are on the island include daytrips to the cays, various water sports (which are complimentary to resort guests, including a 32-foot boat available for sunset cruises), art gallery and museum tours, horseback riding, biking, hiking and golf. And of course, there is the spa.

The origins of the spa come from the ancient tradition that the "heart of healing begins at home." For this reason, treatments are provided by a trained therapist in your private accommodations. This is done in a way that is believed to "uplift, awaken and transport your body, mind and soul into the moment." The resort also has a full-service salon and fitness center; and yoga and Pilates classes are offered regularly.

When you find yourself on the last day of your honeymoon—relaxed and enamored—you will be looking forward to returning home and starting your life together as husband and wife. But when your anniversary ensues, you will think of your time at this Caribbean oasis and fancy the idea of returning. For new-found repeat guests, or as the resort likes to call them “extended family,” there is now the Cap Julucan Society. This is a membership that "honors special benefits, as well as discounts," notes Black, creating the perfect opportunity for you to return year after year.
