An assortment of New England locations for your coastal wedding

Destination Weddings

Coastal New England is known for its quintessential charm, beautiful beaches, close proximity to several major cities, as well as its uncanny ability to feel like a pastoral oasis. People that have had the pleasure of growing up here covet the myriad of properties that they have to choose from for their wedding and couples from other states flock here to experience a unique destination that will beguile their guests.

Located within the smallest state in the region, along Narragansett Bay, are some of the most pristine properties to host a wedding. A destination unto itself, Newport, R.I., bestows Castle Hill, The Chanler at Cliff Walk and Astors’ Beechwood Mansion. Castle Hill is located on its own private enclave and offers a ceremony on the Chalet lawn overlooking the bay, followed by a reception held in the Chalet or Terrace. The Schooner Adirondack II is also available for charter for you and your bridal party serving as the perfect interlude during cocktail hour.

Offering an ideal location along the Cliff Walk, The Chanler offers an oceanfront ceremony on the Cliff Lawn. Reception highlights include a custom-menu provided by the mansion’s famed Spiced Pear Restaurant and a Century tent set up in the Japanese gardens. Positioned on the renowned Bellevue Avenue is the Astors’ Beechwood Mansion boasting nuptials on the expansive lawn, a ballroom inspired by the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles, white-gloved butler directing guests to the veranda for cocktail hour, and pictures in the rose garden.

Located on the other side of Aquidneck Island is one of the finest sporting clubs in the country: The Carnegie Abbey Club. Having just launched The Carnegie Beach Club, their new waterfront event facility, the club is eager to make their specialty your pleasure with an intimate wedding. Across the bay to the west, in Warwick, is the French chateau: Aldrich Mansion, which served as the setting for the filming of “Meet Joe Black” starring Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt. Each package includes use of the Aldrich and Ivory dining rooms, grand foyer, sitting room, marble staircase, terrace, a bridal suite for the bride and groom and free reign of the 75 acres.

Across the bay to the east, in Little Compton, is the newly renovated and restored Stone House. With select unions to be held each year, this historic property gifts a spa day to the bride and groom, luxury guest suite the night of the wedding and airport transfer the day after. Ceremonies can be held on the Estate Lawn followed by an indoor reception in the property’s restaurant, Pietra, which includes access to the Terrace and Pietra Gardens. For larger parties you have the option of utilizing the Pietra Lawn either as a stand alone tented event or as an extension to Pietra offering your guests different niches.

Further east, in Chatham, Mass., located in middle Cape Cod, is the Wequassett Resort and Golf Club. It boasts ceremonies on the manicured lawn overlooking the bay, cocktails in the canopied Garden Terrace, and receptions in The Pavilion, which is appointed with a wraparound porch and fireplace. When the party is over, guests can send you off as you depart on a boat cruise.

Approximately 25 miles off the coast of Cape Cod and across the Nantucket Sound, Time & Place Homes rents private houses like one of their newest acquisitions: Harborview. Located on a private enclave, it is comprised of 10 beachfront residences. There is an expansive lawn which leads out to the beach, members’ lounge, club boats for guests and a full resident, professional staff to assist with your wedding day.

In northern New England, are the Wentworth by the Sea and Inn by the Sea. Located in New Castle, N.H., on Great Island, is the Wentworth by the Sea. Vows can be exchanged with harbor views on the manicured lawns and receptions can be held in the Grand Ballroom, Garden Ballroom, and Wentworth Ballroom—the latter is the grandest and includes a private area for cocktails. Further up the coast in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, is the Inn by the Sea. Ocean views can be held at all function locations including ceremonies on the lawn followed by your choice of indoor or outdoor reception areas including the inn’s premier function space: The Crescent Room. There are expansive gardens, outside terraces and fire pits that are also fully-accessible.

All of these wedding destinations offer unique, but similar coastal settings. From restored properties to mansions and chateaus, small inns, large resorts and private clubs, each of these maritime locations possess something different to celebrate the start of your new life together.
